John Hodson

John Hodson was born Jan. 10, 1808, at Pendleton Township, Lancashire, England. He married Maria Gillar in Jan. 1834. John was one of the first Mormon converts in England. He left England in Jan. 184 1. Came by way of New Orleans. His family landed in Nauvoo April 10, 184 1. They had three children at the time, William, Elizabeth, and Anne. They remained in Nauvoo until Oct. 1, 1846. Then moved to Clark County in the northeastern part of the state of Missouri, thirty miles from Nauvoo The family remained there until May 17, 1853. They reached Salt Lake City, Utah, on Sept. 10, 1853, crossing with the Jesse Crosby Co. The remained in Salt Lake City one week and then went to Kaysville. They settled on Kays Creek on the old farm of Heber C. Kimball.

John Hodson helped built the first flour mill in Kaysville in 1854. He helped plan and work out the first irrigation system from Kays Creek in 1854. He was a farmer. He died Oct. 7, 1880 in Kaysville, Utah, and was buried in the Kaysville Cemetery. Age at time of death, 69 years, 8 months, 27 days. His wife, Maria, died at Ogden, Utah, Oct. 8, 1891 and was buried in the Kaysville Cemetery. Age at time of death, 75 years, 9 months, I day.

  1. William Hodson, born Sept. 18, 1834 in Penworthan Township, Lancashire, England. Married Ruth Ware at Kaysville, Utah, Feb. 9, 1859. Died April 21, 1917 at Ogden, Utah.
  2. Elizabeth Hodson, born Jan. 20, 1836, in Penworthan Township, Lancashire, England. Married Joseph Allen at Kaysville, Utah, Feb. 9, 1859.
  3. Ann Hodson, born April 12, 1837, in Penworthan Township, Lancashire, England. Died Aug. 19, 183 8 at the place of birth. Was drowned. Age at time of death, I year, 4 months, 7 days.
  4. Ann Hodson, born May 22, 1940, in Penworthan Township, Lancashire, England. Married Thomas Findley. Died Nov. 6, 1886, at Layton, Utah.
  5. James Hodson, born Sept. 20, 1842, at Nauvoo City, Hancock, Illinois. Died at the same place Aug. 19, 1843. Age at the time of death, 10 months, 29 days.
  6. John Hiram Hodson, born Oct. 18, 1844, at Nauvoo City, Hancock, Illinois. Married Rebecca Marriott on Nov. 1, 1869. Died Nov. 29, 1932.
  7. Thomas Heber Hodson, born Nov. 10, 1846, in Washington Township, Clark, Missouri. Married Amelia Flint in 1875. Died at Blackfoot, Idaho, on Feb. 28, 1921 of cancer of the face. Was buried in Blackfoot Cemetery March 3, 192 1. Age at time of death 74 years, 3 months, and 18 day.
  8. Mary Jane Hodson, born March 22, 1848, in Washington Township, Clark, Missouri. Married Giles Bowler. Died June 1, 1936.
  9. Sarah Ellen Hodson, born March 16, 1850, in Washington Township, Clark, Missouri. Married Samuel Norman July 5, 1880. Died July 10, 1932.
  10. Joseph Ephriam Hodson, born May 19,1851, in Washington Township, Clark, Missouri. Married Elizabeth Ann Sill. Died of pneumonia at the age of 76 on Feb. 24, 1927. Buried in the Warren Cemetery in Plain City, Utah.
  11. Moses Alma Hodson, born March 1, 1853, in Washington Township, Clark, Missouri. Died at Kaysville, Utah, Nov. 13, 1875. Age at time of death, 22 years.
  12. Ruth Rebecca Hodson, born Feb. 12, 1855, at Kaysville, Davis, Utah. Married William Flint of Kaysville. They made their home there, had two children, James and Letitia. Died Feb. 3, 1880. At the age of 24 years.
  13. Jedediah Richard Hodson, born Feb. 9, 1859, in Kaysville, Davis, Utah. Married Alice Green. Died in Layton, Davis, Utah, on June 18, 1931.
