CS 7930: Computer Science Colloquium -- Fall 2009
Held in the LCR of MEB (Room 3147) 3:40pm to 5:00pm
See Calendar
and
Colloquium Info for details.
Colloquia are extremely important for the growth of a graduate student's knowledge
and perspective.
We are requiring every student registered in Colloquium (CS 7930)
to attend not only our regular Colloquia, but also
our Distinguished Lectures (if any)
and Faculty Recruiting Talks (generally held in the Spring).
PLEASE NOTE:
- Colloquia are NOT held every week. They are held whenever
we manage to book a talk.
You should consult the Calendar and Colloquium Info listed above, and
attend accordingly.
- It would be a good idea to signup for the colloq@cs mailing list here. All colloquia are announced on this list.
- Attending all talks is recommended! Grading rules are listed below.
- External talks will likely begin at 3:40pm (refreshments
at 3:20pm).
- Internal "Research Buffet" talks will likely begin at 3:20pm (refreshments
to follow).
- All colloquia are expected to be held in the LCR (3147 MEB).
Watch the announcements for clarifications.
1 GRADING and CREDITS
-
You may register for one (1) or two (2) credits only.
- If you registered for one credit, you must
attend more than a third of the talks held,
and send in a summary (see
below on how to).
(No harm if you attended (and sent in) more: in fact, you are
encouraged to do so!)
- If you registered for two credits, you must
attend more than two thirds of the talks held,
and send in a summary.
- If after the course is over you notice that your grade is
anything less than an A, then perhaps you have not met the above
criteria. You may be allowed to make-up by sending summaries late.
2 SENDING SUMMARIES
The summaries must be sent to teach-cs7930(@)list.eng.utah.edu by email.
The subject of the email must be ``Colloquium of mm-dd-yy u#######'' where
mm-dd-yy is the date of the colloquium and u####### is your student ID.
Each student is expected to send the summaries within one week of
the event.
Formatting errors (wrt the above format) or late submissions -- zero credits for that summary!
NOTE: I am unable to acknowledge each email -- but be rest assured : our email system works!
Thank you, and have fun attending our colloquia!
